Mavin Records boss and veteran producer, Don Jazzy, has opened up about one of the few personal sacrifices he made while pursuing his career in music—marriage.
Speaking on the Echo Podcast, the 42-year-old admitted that he never imagined he would still be unmarried at this stage of his life.
“I never thought I would be 40-something and not be married. Maybe that’s the one I lost. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m totally fine,” he said.
The award-winning producer reflected on what he might have done had he not become a music executive, noting he would likely still be connected to music or thriving as an influencer.
Despite the trade-off, Don Jazzy—who has nurtured stars like Tiwa Savage, Rema, and Ayra Starr—said he feels fulfilled with his career achievements and contributions to the African entertainment industry.
Don Jazzy was briefly married to model and writer Michelle Jackson in 2003 while living in London. The union, however, ended in divorce two years later.
He has previously explained that his all-consuming passion for music and determination to build a career made it difficult to sustain family life. Despite the split, he has often described Michelle as a “beautiful soul,” adding that they still maintain a cordial relationship.
