Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, grabbed headlines on Saturday after providing a stunning assist for Nigerian forward, Paul Onuachu, in Trabzonspor’s 1-1 draw against Gaziantep in the Turkish Super Lig.

Onana, currently on loan from Manchester United, showcased his ball-playing ability with a precise long pass that sliced through the defence and found Onuachu. The Super Eagles striker held off his markers before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper to score his third goal of the season, rescuing a point for Trabzonspor after they had fallen behind.

It was the 29-year-old goalkeeper’s second appearance for the Turkish side, following an impressive debut last weekend where he made eight saves despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahce.

Fans Hail Onana’s Revival
Football fans were quick to flood social media with praise for the Cameroonian shot-stopper, with many arguing that his struggles at Manchester United were not down to his talent but the club’s system.

One fan wrote on X, “The only reason Onana was poor at United is because they didn’t allow him to play his way. He thrives when given freedom with the ball.”

Another added, “Everyone leaves Man U and then remembers how to play football.”

On Facebook, fans also defended him, insisting he was let down by United’s defence. “Onana was never the problem. The structure at United was,” one supporter argued.

Fresh Start in Turkey
Onana’s loan switch to Trabzonspor came late in the summer window after a difficult spell at Old Trafford, where he managed only one appearance this season—in a Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town that ended in penalties.

Meanwhile, Onuachu, who joined Trabzonspor permanently from Southampton, has now scored three times in six appearances this season, continuing his fine form in front of goal.

Both players are expected to be back in action on September 27 when Trabzonspor face Fatih Karagumruk in their next league match.
