Thirteen players have now reported to the Super Eagles’ camp in Ikot Ekpene as Nigeria steps up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
According to the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, nine new arrivals—Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks—joined the camp on Tuesday.
They linked up with the quartet of William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, and Raphael Onyedika, who checked in a day earlier.
Efoghe confirmed that 13 of the 23 invited players are currently in camp, with the remaining 10 expected between late Tuesday and Wednesday.
He also outlined the team’s media schedule ahead of the qualifiers. A press conference with the coaching crew and selected players will hold on Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, while Friday’s pre-match briefing will also take place at the same venue. The first 15 minutes of Friday’s training session will be open to the media.
Players still expected include goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali; defender Bruno Onyemaechi; midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka; and forwards Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Christantus Uche, and Tolu Arokodare.
Nigeria hosts Rwanda on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, before traveling to Bloemfontein for a clash against South Africa next Monday.
The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C of the African qualifiers with two points from two matches, trailing leaders South Africa and Rwanda, who both have four points. Only the top team in the group qualifies automatically for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
