The Dangote Group on Sunday evacuated the body of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, following her death in Edo State.

Ruth, who had her leg amputated after being hit by a truck reportedly belonging to the company near Auchi Polytechnic last month, died in the early hours of Sunday. She was confirmed dead around 6:30 a.m., weeks after the accident.

Her family, through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, announced her passing in a statement, describing her as “a daughter, sister, and mother” while appealing for privacy as they mourn. Funeral details, they said, would be shared later.

A family source told PUNCH Metro that Dangote representatives were immediately informed of her death and took responsibility for moving her remains to the mortuary. The source added that the family expects the company to also cover her burial expenses, having earlier paid for her medical care.

Another relative described Ruth, fondly called Bobo, as a warm and cheerful person who would be greatly missed.

Eyewitnesses had said the truck crushed her leg before it was eventually stopped by a bystander. Phyna had previously urged that her sister be flown abroad for treatment.

In its earlier response to the incident, Dangote Group confirmed its involvement, noting that it engaged law enforcement, met with the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and pledged to provide full medical and welfare support.
