The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, after she allegedly attempted to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of cocaine while posing as a pregnant woman.
According to the NDLEA, Ezewuike, who owns Golden Star Creation, a fashion business based in Okota, Lagos, was intercepted on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba. She was reportedly on her way to deliver the drug consignment to buyers in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, operatives later searched her residence at Ago Palace Way, Okota, where they recovered 200 grams of a chemical substance commonly used in the preparation of cocaine.
During interrogation, Ezewuike — a mother of one — allegedly confessed that she took over the drug business from her late husband, who died two years earlier, despite having run her fashion enterprise for over two decades.
Babafemi further disclosed that in a separate operation, NDLEA officers intercepted 90 parcels of Loud, a potent variant of cannabis, weighing 48.6kg. The drugs had been concealed inside three cartons of imported kitchen sinks from the United States and were seized at a Lagos courier company on Tuesday, August 19.
In Adamawa State, operatives stormed the residence of a notorious drug dealer, Idris Garba, who managed to flee by scaling a fence. However, his associate, 55-year-old Boniface Nnaji, was caught attempting to escape. From the property, officers recovered a Toyota Thundra Jeep used to transport 354,480 tablets of tramadol of varying dosages, along with a Toyota Yaris car.
In Kano State, NDLEA operatives apprehended two men, Buhari Ibrahim (25) and Mansur Musa (24), at Zangon Ungogo with 5,850 capsules of pregabalin. Additionally, a raid on the home of a suspect, Rabilu Mukhtar, who is currently on the run, yielded over 452,000 opioid pills. On the same day, Buhari Idris (35) was arrested at Tashan Rami with 140 litres of codeine syrup. Another suspect, Adamu Yusuf (29), was caught along the Zaria–Kano road with 7,000 tramadol capsules.
In Abuja, two motorcycle dispatch riders were arrested for distributing hard drugs, while simultaneous operations in Taraba, Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Ekiti states led to the destruction of large cannabis farms and warehouses.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across Nigeria, stressing that disguises, such as the widow’s fake pregnancy, would not prevent detection.
