Victor Osimhen etched his name into Galatasaray’s history books on Sunday after scoring in a commanding 4-0 win over Kayserispor, a result that handed the Turkish giants their strongest league start since the 2007/08 campaign.
Making his first start since his high-profile summer transfer, the Nigerian striker struck in the 86th minute to net his debut goal for the club, sealing an emphatic victory at the Kadir Has Stadium.
The win means Galatasaray have begun their Super Lig season with three consecutive victories without conceding—a defensive and attacking balance the Istanbul side had not achieved in nearly two decades.
Eren Elmali had earlier doubled the visitors’ advantage, first capitalising on a rebound in the opening half before heading home another after the break.
Osimhen later linked up brilliantly with Mauro Icardi and Nicolo Zaniolo, before finishing off a Zaniolo delivery to make it three. Leroy Sané, another marquee summer signing, put the icing on the cake with a stoppage-time strike.
The dominant display mirrors the 2007/08 season, when Galatasaray last enjoyed such a flawless start—under the watch of then-player and now-head coach, Orkan Buruk. That campaign ended with a league title, fueling optimism among supporters that history could repeat itself with Osimhen spearheading the attack.
Next, the Super Eagles forward and his teammates will welcome Rizespor to Rams Park as they look to stretch their unbeaten run.
