Four South-West states — Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun — have declared tomorrow a public holiday in honour of Isese Day, the annual festival dedicated to celebrating Yoruba culture, religion and traditions.

In Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the work-free day to allow residents, particularly traditional worshippers, to take part in the observance aimed at preserving and promoting indigenous heritage.

Similarly, the Ogun State Government, through a statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, announced the holiday, noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun recognises the significance of Yoruba heritage to the state’s identity and cultural values.

The Oyo State Government also declared a work-free day via a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, who confirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde had endorsed the observance.

In Osun, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul Rasheed Aderibigbe, confirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s approval of the holiday, while conveying the governor’s goodwill message to adherents of traditional religion and wishing them a memorable celebration.

Isese Day, observed annually across Yoruba communities, serves as a reminder of the region’s cultural roots and fosters respect and appreciation for indigenous traditions.
