The United States Mission in Nigeria has directed all visa applicants to provide details of their social media activity covering the past five years as part of the application process.
The directive, announced on Monday via the Mission’s official X handle, requires applicants to list every social media username or handle used within that period when completing the DS-160 visa form.
According to the embassy, the measure aligns with the U.S. Department of State’s efforts to strengthen national security through enhanced vetting procedures.
Applicants were warned that failure to disclose the required information could result in visa denial and possible disqualification from future U.S. visa applications.
“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the post read.
