Popular actor and content creator Debo Adebayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has called out the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, over her social media post regarding Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1.

The controversy follows an incident last Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where KWAM1 reportedly clashed with ValueJet staff after being stopped from boarding with a flask suspected to contain alcohol.

According to the aircraft’s pilot, Captain Ranti Ogoyi, the contents of the flask were spilled on her during the confrontation. KWAM1 was also accused of standing in front of the aircraft in an attempt to prevent its departure, narrowly avoiding injury as it taxied.

Amid public backlash, the singer issued an apology to President Bola Tinubu, the flight captain, his fans, and others who felt offended by his actions. Dabiri-Erewa, a known associate of the musician, shared a video of the apology on social media with the caption: “Kwam1’s apology on the airport incident. To err is human.”

The post drew criticism from many Nigerians, who felt it appeared to downplay the seriousness of the incident. Reacting via X, Mr Macaroni accused the NIDCOM boss of setting a dangerous precedent by suggesting that public figures could commit offences, apologise, and avoid accountability.

“Ma, I just want to say that this is highly reprehensible. You don’t deserve to hold a public office. You have set a very dangerous precedent with this tweet. You have told Nigerians it is okay to commit a crime and can issue an apology to absolve yourself without consequences,” he wrote.
