The Lagos State Government has closed Vaniti Club House, situated on Adeola Odeku Street in Victoria Island, due to repeated violations of traffic regulations.
The enforcement operation was led by Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and carried out by the agency’s Rescue and Compliance Unit.
A statement released on Monday by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, said the club had been under scrutiny for consistent breaches of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. The violations included promoting illegal roadside parking and obstructing free movement on public roads—actions that have contributed to traffic congestion and safety hazards in the busy district.
The state government noted that efforts were made to engage the club’s management through education campaigns, meetings, and formal warnings. However, these initiatives failed to yield results.
“The club continued to disregard all sensitisation efforts, stakeholder engagements, and official warnings,” the statement said. “They have chosen to act in a way that compromises the traffic structure of Victoria Island.”
As a result, the government invoked its regulatory authority and shut the facility indefinitely, pending full compliance with relevant traffic laws.
Speaking on the development, Bakare-Oki emphasized that this enforcement action is part of a broader strategy targeting recreational venues—including clubs, lounges, and event centres—that misuse public roads for private operations.
“This is just the beginning,” he said. “We are actively surveilling other establishments that contribute to traffic bottlenecks by converting public roadways and surrounding areas into makeshift parking lots.”
The state reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for actions that threaten commuter safety or disrupt traffic order.
Residents and road users have been encouraged to report traffic-related issues to LASTMA via its emergency hotline: 080000527862.
According to the statement, the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to ensuring a disciplined, secure, and well-regulated traffic system throughout Lagos.
