A wedding scheduled to take place in Kubwa, Abuja, was allegedly called off after the groom discovered that his bride-to-be owed a bank ₦8.2 million.
The development surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where a user identified as @winifunds shared details of the incident. According to the post, the groom canceled the ceremony after learning about the massive debt, which the fiancée had reportedly failed to disclose earlier.
“Man reportedly canceled wedding in Kubwa after discovering the wife-to-be is owing a bank ₦8.2 million,” @winifunds posted.
The story triggered a wave of reactions online:
@TheRealGulu commented, “I can bet my money this is a loan shark debt. The real question is why she kept quiet.”
@abazwhyllzz added, “₦8.2M in this economy? The wedding should be on hold, abeg.”
@imthecursor asked, “If they marry, will he be legally responsible for the debt? How did she even accumulate that amount?”
@fortunateozuyak reacted, “And she didn’t tell him? What’s wrong with some people?”
@kalabelewe posed a rhetorical question, “If he found out she inherited ₦8.2M, would he still cancel the wedding? This one is: for better, stay; for worse, run.”
@itsleeswhag remarked, “This is a valid reason. Marriage makes you one, and inheriting an undisclosed debt is a trap.”
As of now, neither the groom nor the fiancée has publicly responded to the claims.
