Former political adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has criticised President Bola Tinubu for remaining silent on rumours suggesting plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed said the President’s direct intervention would have ended the speculation.

“If these stories have no truth, the President should have personally said, ‘I have confidence in my Vice President; stop this nonsense.’ But he didn’t,” Baba-Ahmed stated.

He noted that while presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga earlier dismissed the claims as a “non-issue,” Tinubu’s own voice was necessary to reassure the public.

The former adviser added that the continued silence raises concerns, stressing that leadership requires clear communication, especially on sensitive political issues.

Rumours about replacing Shettima have persisted despite no official confirmation from the Presidency.
