Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Maduka Okoye, the Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper, as an ambassador of the state. The honor recognizes Okoye’s contributions to football and his commitment to youth development in Enugu.

During a visit to the Lion Building on Tuesday, Okoye shared his plans to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy in Enugu. Governor Mbah commended the 25-year-old for his dedication to giving back, noting that the state will provide land for the academy and invited Okoye to participate in the upcoming Enugu International Marathon.

Mbah described Okoye as a role model for young people, particularly those in the state’s “Smart Green Schools,” and said the appointment would inspire the next generation of Enugu talents.

Okoye expressed gratitude for the reception and appointment, calling it a meaningful homecoming. He praised the governor’s developmental efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to Enugu’s economic and sporting growth.

Born in Germany to a Nigerian father and German mother, Okoye has 16 caps for Nigeria. He played a key role in Udinese’s 2024/25 Serie A season, making 25 appearances, keeping four clean sheets, and demonstrating strong command in goal.
