Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has been bestowed with the esteemed chieftaincy title of Ugosimba 1 of Enugu by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council. The title, which translates to “a precious jewel or eagle from another land,” was conferred during her two-day official visit to the state.

Chairman of the Council, Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, explained that the honour was in recognition of her longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes, national development, and her affection for the people of Enugu. Highlighting her accomplishments, Asadu noted her three-term tenure in the Senate and her national honour as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). More importantly, he praised her dedication to improving lives, especially her support for nurses, midwives, and the underprivileged.

In response, Mrs. Tinubu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gesture, describing Enugu as a serene and welcoming state that had given her a deep sense of peace. She dedicated the title not just to herself, but to her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and their family, stating it was an honour they would always treasure. “This recognition is meaningful to me and my family. Enugu will always hold a special place in my heart,” she said.
