Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has extended words of encouragement to Lamine Yamal, Spain’s 17-year-old sensation, following Portugal’s dramatic UEFA Nations League victory over Spain in Munich on Sunday night.
The highly anticipated clash—seen as a symbolic encounter between the 40-year-old veteran and the teenage prodigy—ended with Portugal edging Spain on penalties to clinch their second Nations League title.
Although Yamal contributed to Spain’s opening goal, he faced challenges defensively, particularly against Nuno Mendes, and struggled to fully influence the game.
Speaking after the match, Ronaldo urged fans and media to be patient with the youngster:
“He’s only 17… he’s a phenomenon, but we have to leave him alone. He’ll win many titles, both collective and individual.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also took the opportunity to address ongoing speculation about his club future, confirming that he will remain with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia:
“Nothing will change. Will I stay at Al-Nassr? Yes.”
Ronaldo’s reassurance ends rumors regarding his potential departure as his current contract nears expiration.
