Several people were reportedly injured and property worth millions of naira destroyed after a telecom mast collapsed on a residential building in Ogun State.
The incident, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has triggered a wave of reactions online, especially following the circulation of a disturbing video that showed the extensive damage caused by the mast’s fall.
The video revealed a wrecked rooftop, broken ceilings, and damaged household items, sparking concern over the safety standards of such infrastructure in residential areas.
According to eyewitness reports shared online, several occupants of the affected home sustained injuries, though no fatalities have been reported.
The video quickly drew widespread attention, with users expressing both concern and criticism. Many demanded accountability and compensation from the mast’s operators, while others raised questions about the ownership and maintenance of such structures.
One user, @Fab_Ian_212, wrote: “Good these people were only injured and no loss of life… But which network is this and what will be done to the owner of the property destroyed??? There is need for compensation I think.”
Another user, @masqurave, clarified: “Most of these masts are not owned by the telecom companies you know. They are owned by infrastructure providers. Only Glo still owns most of its masts.”
While some comments focused on the potential compensation, others highlighted the broader issue of oversight and safety compliance.
“These masts must have been showing signs of collapsing but the supervisor didn’t take it seriously,” said @EbereAmani. “Thank goodness no one lost their lives.”
Authorities in Ogun State have not yet issued an official statement on the incident. Meanwhile, questions linger over which telecom or infrastructure firm is responsible for the mast and whether the victims will receive adequate compensation.
