Manchester United are preparing to initiate formal negotiations with Brentford over a potential £60 million move for Bryan Mbeumo, as they continue their summer squad overhaul.
The 25-year-old forward, who has emerged as Brentford’s key attacking figure following Ivan Toney’s exit, is reportedly seeking a substantial pay rise. According to The Times, Mbeumo is demanding a weekly salary of around £250,000—five times his current earnings of £50,000.
Mbeumo enjoyed a standout 2024/25 Premier League season, notching 20 goals and contributing 7 assists in 38 matches. His impressive form has placed him on the radar of several top-tier clubs, with Manchester United leading the race.
Having already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves, United view Mbeumo as a pivotal piece in new manager Ruben Amorim’s rebuilding plans following a disastrous season that saw them finish 15th in the table.
One major hurdle, however, is the club’s wage structure. United may need to make room in the budget, particularly with big earners like Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford expected to depart during the summer window.
Newcastle United are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation, though Mbeumo is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford. While United have yet to table a formal offer, direct discussions with Brentford are expected to begin shortly.
