Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has revealed he declined a massive offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, choosing instead to remain at Old Trafford to continue competing at the highest level of football.
Al-Hilal reportedly offered United a £100 million transfer fee and proposed a staggering three-year contract for Fernandes worth around £200 million, tripling his current wages. Talks between the club and the midfielder’s camp were said to be positive, but the 30-year-old ultimately opted to stay put.
“There was an offer. The Al-Hilal president reached out and said they were waiting for me,” Fernandes shared during a media briefing ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League semi-final clash with Germany.
“Still, my goal is to play at the top level and fight for major trophies,” he added.
Fernandes also revealed that United head coach Ruben Amorim played a role in his decision, urging him to stay. “I spoke to coach Amorim, and he asked me not to go. My wife also asked me what I truly wanted.”
According to the midfielder, Manchester United were not open to letting him leave either. “The club didn’t want to sell me. They’re not in need of money. If I had pushed for a move, maybe it would’ve happened—but I didn’t want to go,” he said.
Fernandes’ choice reinforces his commitment to the Red Devils amid ongoing squad changes and ambitions to restore the club’s competitive edge.
