Nollywood Hits Big: ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ and ‘Alakada Bad & Boujee’ Make ₦2 Billion at the Box Office

Nollywood is buzzing with success as two major films, Everybody Loves Jenifa and Alakada Bad & Boujee, have collectively raked in an impressive ₦2 billion at the Nigerian box office. Everybody Loves Jenifa, the much-anticipated sequel by Funke Akindele, brought in a staggering ₦1.6 billion, accounting for 80% of the total earnings. Meanwhile, Toyin Abraham’s Alakada Bad & Boujee contributed ₦401 million, securing its place as one of the top holiday releases.

Both films premiered in December 2024 and have played a major role in pushing Nigeria’s box office revenue for the year to a record ₦11.58 billion. Everybody Loves Jenifa set a new record, grossing ₦783 million within its first 14 days and surpassing ₦1 billion in just 19 days. Meanwhile, Alakada Bad & Boujee quickly became a favorite, grossing over ₦134 million within its first week.

The success of these films highlights Nollywood’s growing dominance, with a 60% increase in box office revenue from the previous year. With several other Nollywood titles also crossing the ₦100 million mark, 2024 has truly been a landmark year for Nigerian cinema.
