As 2024 rolls on, it’s clear that the hit singles released in the last quarter of 2023 have continued to make waves, with many of them securing spots at the top of Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Songs of 2024 list. Leading the charge is Seyi Vibez, whose song “Different Pattern” takes the crown as the most-streamed track on the platform.

Released in December 2023 as part of his NAHAMciaga EP, “Different Pattern” has enjoyed a massive run in 2024, staying at the top of the streaming charts for a significant period. This marks a stellar year for Vibez, whose music continues to captivate listeners.

Omah Lay’s “Holy Ghost” follows closely at number 2, proving the artist’s continued relevance in the music scene, while Shallipopi’s “Cast”, a smash collaboration with rapper Odumodublvck, rounds out the top 3.

Kizz Daniel’s infectious single “Twe Twe” claims the fourth spot, with Seyi Vibez again making an appearance in the top five. His track “Cana” secures the fifth position, making him the only artist with two songs in the top five.

Other chart-toppers include Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan and Chike & Mohbad’s “Egwu”, while the remix of “Tshwala Bam” featuring Burna Boy makes TitoM and Yuppe the only non-Nigerian artists to appear in the top 50. Of the top 20 songs, 14 were released in 2023, showcasing the lasting appeal of music from last year. Burna Boy’s “Higher”, Ayo Maff & Fireboy DML’s “Dealer”, Ruger & BNXN’s “POE”, and Young Jonn’s “Bahamas” are some of the few 2024 releases that have made it to the list.

However, some music critics, like journalist Joey Akan, have pointed out that the dominance of 2023 songs in the top 10 may reflect a challenging year for Nigerian music in 2024, where fresh releases haven’t hit the same level of success as last year’s tracks.

One striking observation from the list is the absence of a female artist in the top 20. Ayra Starr, however, represents with a notable entry at number 24 for her single “Bad Vibes”, featuring Seyi Vibez.

As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see if newer hits can dethrone the reigning tracks or if the 2023 releases continue to dominate the charts. Either way, Nigerian music is keeping listeners hooked, with these top tracks leading the charge.
