Davido has announced plans to mark his 32nd birthday with a generous ₦300 million donation to support charity organizations focused on victims of drug abuse and orphanages across Nigeria. The music superstar shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that the donation will be his annual contribution to causes close to his heart.
The donation, which is set to be made on November 21, 2024, will be the fourth publicized charitable act from the Afrobeats artist. In November 2021, Davido donated ₦250 million to 292 orphanages across Nigeria to celebrate his 29th birthday. In July 2023, he made another significant contribution of ₦237 million to over 400 orphanages in the country. In February 2024, he pledged ₦300 million to orphanages through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation.
Ahead of his birthday, Davido shared on his X page, “Once again, my birthday this year, we’re donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction. This year it’s N300m. Details to follow soon ❤️.”
This will be the first time that Davido has publicly taken a stand against drug abuse. In 2015, he faced controversy with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after showcasing hard drugs in the music video for his song “Fans Mi,” which featured Meek Mill.
As part of his ongoing commitment to giving back, Davido continues to use his platform and influence to support causes that make a meaningful impact on society, especially on issues affecting vulnerable children and young people.
