In a dramatic and closely contested finale of the Miss Universe 2024 competition, Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina made history by securing the title of first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant.
The prestigious crown was claimed by Victoria Kjaer Theilvig from Denmark, who succeeded Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. The grand event unfolded at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, where 126 contestants from around the globe competed for the coveted title.
This year’s pageant saw fierce competition, with contestants from 18 African nations, including Nigeria, Angola, and Egypt, among the strong contenders. Chidimma’s remarkable journey to the top was a testament to her resilience, as she initially made it to the top 30 before advancing to the top five and ultimately securing a place among the final two alongside Theilvig.
Chidimma’s path to the Miss Universe stage was not without controversy. Earlier this year, she made headlines by withdrawing from the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant after reaching its final stages, following concerns raised about her connections to the country. However, in a remarkable turnaround, she later earned the title of Miss Universe Nigeria, representing Taraba State.
Her stellar performance at Miss Universe 2024 has been widely celebrated, with many recognizing her poise, intelligence, and dedication.
