Former Big Brother Naija winner White Money recently took to Instagram Live to update his fans on his music career, which has recently included an 8-state tour across the United States. During the live session, a clip where he shared his thoughts on Shallipopi’s rise to fame quickly went viral.
In the video, White Money, whose real name is Hazel Oyeye Onou, discussed Shallipopi’s success as a hitmaker. He suggested that Shallipopi’s popularity wasn’t due to his vocal ability but rather his unique swagger, which captures the attention of listeners. “Shallipopi doesn’t have an amazing voice, but once he grabs that mic and says ‘Plutomanians’—it’s all about the swag. Do you think it’s about the voice? It’s not about the voice,” White Money remarked, emphasizing that Shallipopi’s success is more about his personality than his vocal talent.
White Money also shared that he had just returned from performing in eight U.S. states as part of his music career. He explained that this experience, along with his broader exposure to the entertainment industry, puts him in a position to offer advice to Shallipopi. “I’m in a good position to advise him because I’m more exposed musically and entertainment-wise. I can advise him, and he can also advise me. It’s vice versa,” White Money said. However, he added that while he welcomes advice from fellow artists, his social media followers are not qualified to give him music-related guidance.
Although White Money has yet to achieve mainstream success in his music career, his recent Instagram live session shows he remains determined to carve out a path in the music industry. The BBNaija Season 6 winner is clearly focused on his long-term goal of becoming a Grammy-winning artist, despite the challenges he’s faced so far.
