 Actress Shannen Doherty, celebrated for her iconic roles in TV hits like ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ and ‘Charmed,’ passed away on Saturday after battling cancer at the age of 53. Her publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the news with a poignant statement: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty.’ Known not only for her talent but also cherished as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Shannen was surrounded by loved ones, including her faithful dog, Bowie.

Doherty’s career spanned over four decades, catapulting her to fame as Brenda Walsh in the beloved series ‘90210,’ where she portrayed a pivotal role in the lives of Beverly Hills teenagers navigating complex relationships and family dynamics. Her stellar performance earned her multiple award nominations. In a 2008 reboot of the series, she reprised her role, depicting Brenda’s evolution into a theater actress.

In 2015, Shannen was diagnosed with breast cancer, undergoing treatments including a mastectomy, radiation, and chemotherapy. Though she announced remission in 2017, the cancer returned in subsequent years, spreading to her brain and later her bones. Despite these challenges, she remained resolute, sharing her journey openly on social media and advocating for cancer awareness.

‘I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating,’ she bravely expressed to People magazine in November 2023, reflecting her unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.

In January 2024, Doherty revealed that she had begun a promising new cancer treatment that successfully penetrated the blood-brain barrier, describing it as a ‘miracle.’

Tragically, on July 13, 2024, at the age of 53, Shannen Doherty passed away at her residence in Malibu, California, after battling cancer.
